CALLED INTO LIFE AND NOURISHED BY MATTER, REBORN THROUGH THE SPIRIT, COLOR CAN EXPRESS THE BEING OF EVERY THING AND AT THE SAME TIME IS ABLE TO CARRY THE INTENSITY OF THE MOVEMENTS OF THE HEART AND THE MIND

—Henri Matisser

With our modern consciousness we are losing our feeling for the subtle, inner soul qualities of color. We have to actively practice looking at color to deepen our ability to see it. As Rudolf Steiner says, "observing color can not be done without lifting ourselves into our soul life." Color is the soul of nature and of the whole cosmos and we can participate in this soul by living in a deeper way with color.

We will paint and observe the world of color in an artistic way. Every color has itsown character and its own movement. Curiosity and experimental attempts will lead us in various directions. Being authentic to our individual feelings is important, but we will endeavor to find a way to come to objectivity through shared observations.

We will use the wonderful medium of oil sticks, made of wax and pigment. They are easy to use and will allow us to experience both intense color and luminosity. Oil sticks are clear and bright and can be worked with opaquely or in fine, transparent layers. Previous painting experience is helpful, but not essential. Material fee: $80 (includes a box of Sennelier Artists' Oil Sticks)
