Clowning Level II: Embracing the Unexpected
VIVIAN GLADWELL
lives and works in France as a modern-day Court Jester and facilitator with various businesses and teaches clowning with the Bataclown. Gladwell discovered clowning in 1978 and founded Nose to Nose in 1990 to promote a new approach to teaching this work in the UK and elsewhere. He regularly gives workshops at Emerson College in Forest Row, the Blackthorn Trust Medical Centre in Maidstone, and at a number of Waldorf teacher training institutes in Germany, all inspired by the teachings and philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. More information and articles on Nose to Nose.
One Week Intensive: July 13 - 19, 3 Sessions per Day:
8:30 - 10:00 | 2:30 - 4:00 | 4:30 - 6:00
An intensive advanced clown workshop with Vivian Gladwell of Nose to Nose. The course aims to build on the work he has been doing in North America since 2000. To take this course, you will need to have done either this year's Level I course (see Introduction to Clowning, above) or a similar course with Nose to Nose.
Level II offers further practice of clowning with the focus on structure and relationship. The more demanding aspects of this level come from a need to practice a responsiveness to and awareness of your partner on stage, your audience and the images, stories and characters that emerge during improvisation. The teaching method will emphasize finding greater insights into the techniques of improvisation and performance, providing challenges and inspiration enough to take your understanding of this work forward. Level II is a pre-requisite for a planned Social Clowning course which we hope to offer in 2008.
