bringing children
A unique feature of the Institute is that families can attend. We offer programs led by experienced Waldorf teachers for children from preschool (4 years old and up) through eighth grade (approximately 14 years old). Children under age 4 are welcome, but care for them must be provided by parents.
Young Children's Program
For 4 - 6 year olds who have not yet entered first grade. They meet for the two morning class periods, from 8:15-12:00 and in the afternoon from 2:15-6:00. The program is like a Waldorf kindergarten with play and creative activities.
Program for Children 7-14
The program for 7-14 year olds consists of four class periods with different emphases.
In keeping with the family-like atmosphere of the Institute, the children meet and work together as a group. Projects are designed for a mixed age range with the aim of giving each child an experience meeting their individual skill levels. Each child works on developing artisan and craft skills.
They:
- develop and practice a variety of performing arts skills—working individually and on group projects
- enjoy daily games and outdoor activities
- take off-campus excursions
- exhibit their work to the Institute community at the end of each week.
The focus is to give young people an engaging program that is flexible in meeting the needs of both the group and of individuals, while providing a variety of experiences to meet the interests of older children. The program offers excellent skill instruction, space for individually defined work, and group activities.
Activities will include:
•Singing
•Storytelling
•Nature walks
•Cooperative games

Accommodations for Children
In order to help families attend the Institute, children and youth now stay free, provided they stay in their parent's room. If you want your older child to have a room of his or her own, you will be charged the adult room charge.
Please E-mail the registrar, or call 800-774-5191 to make this arrangement.
